The intermediate frequency current in this series of electrotherapy machines is a square wave current with a frequency of 2000-8000 Hz. However, a constant-amplitude intermediate frequency current, due to its lack of amplitude variation, is easily adapted to by the human body and cannot excite muscles, as its frequency exceeds the therapeutic range (0-150 Hz). To retain the benefits of intermediate frequency while incorporating low-frequency characteristics, a low-frequency (1-150 Hz) modulated intermediate frequency current is used.
